Lexington County Democratic Party

Kathy Hensley has served as Chair of the Lexington County Democratic Party since 2006.  She re-activated the South Carolina Democratic Women’s Council in 1996 after its dormancy of about 15 years and served as President and Treasurer. 

Since 1968, she has worked on four Presidential, and a number of State and Local Democratic campaigns in Virginia and South Carolina.  She was the National Finance Manager for Eugene McCarthy’s Presidential campaign, attended the 1968 Chicago Convention and was a South Carolina delegate to the 2000, 2004 and 2008 National Democratic Conventions.  She has been an officer and board member of a number of local, regional and national non-profit organizations.  She is the former Treasurer of the SC Democratic Party, former President of the Columbia Chapter of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, and current Chair of the East Piedmont Resource Conservation and Development Council.  She remains active in the American Society for Public Administration and serves as Treasurer for the Southeastern Conference of Public Administration.  She is featured in Profiles of Outstanding Women in Public Administration published by the Section for Women, American Society for Public Administration.  She has a BA in Political Science from the University of South Carolina and has completed graduate studies in Ocean Policy.

In November 2006, she was elected to a 4-year term as Commissioner for the Lexington County Soil & Water Conservation District.  She is retired from federal and state government and has resided in Lexington since 1996.
